RtI / MTSS / PBIS

Meeting all students’ learning needs isn’t a luxury and shouldn’t be prioritized for the select few. Instead, it’s our ethical and moral responsibility to make sure that time, talents and resources are spent in ways that maximize every students’ growth. To that end, a focus on Response to Instruction [RtI] / Multi-Tiered System of Supports [MTSS] is essential to every school’s success. Join me in this work and we’ll create professional learning opportunities that give educators [across all Tiers and levels of education] the skills, strategies and tools they need to create systems and structures to support all learners.

The truth is students come to school each day with individual and collective wants and needs, and it’s our job to harness who and where they are. The RtI / MTSS process doesn’t have to be a machine model approach with an overreliance on short sided skill and drill; it can be a dynamic, flexible, in-the-moment response focused on good instruction. And, since good instruction doesn’t happen in a vacuum, topic option include, but are not limited to:

  • Asset-Based Pedagogy
  • Response to Instruction / RtIMulti-Tiered System of Supports / MTSS
  • Multi-Tiered System of Supports / MTSS
  • Workshop Model / Student Engagement Model / Gradual Release Model
  • Co-Planning & Co-Teaching [Units of Study, Learning Progressions, Weekly & Daily Plans]
  • Small Group Learning Experiences
  • Balanced Literacy
  • Voluminous Reading, Writing & Talk
  • Classroom Design
  • Instructional Coaching [teachers, coaches, and administrators]
  • Creating Thinking Partnerships to Build Capacity
  • Integrated, Inquiry-Driven Approaches to Teaching & Learning

What’s Our Response?

This book will provide dozens of ready-to-use solution-oriented tools to create asset-based systems and structures so that you are better positioned to create an instructional response that will support all students growth

As a long-time teacher, coach and instructional leader, I understand the challenges schools face today in educating our learners. Together, we’ll create a strong foundation of responses to instruction to ensure all students are learning at high levels. Together we’ll tackle some of the most common problems of practice that exist today. Some of those include:

  • We need to break out of the RtI box.

  • We need to honor and increase teacher autonomy and agency.

  • We need child study teams focused on students’ assets.

  • We need to increase students’ thinking and doing time.

  • We need good instruction because that makes the best interventions.

Our work will include a commitment to providing intentional and well designed solutions to these 5 predominant, and often universal, challenges. In addition, we’ll work together to identify other key challenges facing your district or school, keeping students at the center of decision-making, so that we can close the gap between what we want students to know and be able to do and where they are now.
